We get questions from our clients about setups for different newborn packages. Here is a good example of Newborn Essence package. This client booked My Baby’s 1st Year package and the newborn portion is Newborn Essence.
We usually start with wrapping poses as babies feel secured and sleep well when wrapped. With wraps, we have different colour fur fabrics we use. As you can see, we do a couple of different looks with the first setup and images in different angles. If we get smiles from the baby, that is, for sure, a keepsake.
With the second setup, we usually do a basket setup. Depending on the client’s preference, we do either facing forward basket or lying on the back basket. With this session, we did a facing forward basket. We typically use a few different bonnets, headbands, or hats. Babies tend to sleep well in a facing forward basket so if the baby is close to 2 weeks old and wake up easily, the facing forward basket is a better setup than lying in the basket. We always have a spotter next to the baby for the baby’s safety. Even when they seem sound sleeping in the basket, they could startle and move their head any second. Baby’s safety is the most important thing we keep in mind when we photograph newborns.
The third setup is a smooth fabric beanbag setup. Here we do naked baby poses – side pose, bum up pose, taco pose, or froggy pose depending on what seems the most natural for each baby, we do a couple of different poses. For this baby girl, we did the side pose and taco pose. With each pose, we do naked images and some covered with wraps.
Newborn Essence package includes photos with mom and dad. Depending on the client’s preference, we will either have the baby naked or wrapped. When the baby is naked, there is a chance for an accident. Babies tend to have an accident when naked. 🙂 We ask our clients to bring extra top if they want the baby to be naked. We capture the intimate connection between the baby and parents and also portraits; looking at the camera as well.
This is an example session and each session is different. We’ve had clients who didn’t want basket setups and did all three setups on the beanbag. We discuss with clients at the beginning of the session to find out which setups they like for their baby.
We welcome grandparents to the session. There is an additional fee if you’d like to include grandparents in the session. If you have older kids, you can simply add on siblings to any newborn package you choose at $60 additional fee. Check out an example of Newborn Essence with Siblings.
