When I have a family photography session, I prefer it done outdoor to capture children’s natural moments. Bringing out the natural beauty of children in a studio is a completely different story as there is nothing in a studio setup interesting to the children. One thing I never do is to force them to do anything. I want them to have fun in their own way so I can capture their natural moments. I occasionally do studio sessions for families and I had an opportunity to photograph 10 families and 18 children in a studio setup a couple of weeks ago. Winnie, the founder & director of Artspace Children’s Arts Centre in Burnaby, invited me to the very special event, Art Show & Sale, to offer mini family portrait sessions. Artspace is a great space for children to explore arts through various programs including visual arts, dance, music and theatre and I was happy to be part of the community event. I had a big room for the photo shoots and set up a couple of backdrops and floors. I must say I loved interacting with the kids who were in front of my camera and what gorgeous kids they are! I just love photographing children.
