Best suited for photographers who are just starting in newborn photography, or who have less than a year of experience. With only a handful of students, you'll spend far less time waiting and far more time actually practicing — and leave with a genuinely varied portfolio that reflects real session flow, not just a few repeated setups.

This workshop will cover:

- Various wrapping techniques

- Propping with baskets for creative setups

- Classic beanbag poses for timeless looks

- Posing with parents and siblings

- Lighting and angles for professional results

- Soothing techniques for newborns

- Post-processing and editing tips

Sample day schedule:

9:00 am: Greeting & introduction; camera and lighting setup

10:00 am: First newborn model (no sibling) — wrapping, posing, propping

12:00 pm: Lunch & Q&A (lunch provided)

1:00 pm: Second newborn model, with sibling — sibling & parent posing

3:30 pm: Post-processing & editing session

4:30 pm:Final Q&A

What to bring:

A fully charged DSLR, at least one lens (35mm, 50mm, or 24–70mm), and a memory card.

  • Format: Small group (maximum 4 students), hands-on
  • Time: 9am - 5pm
  • Location: Rachel Yoon Photography Studio, Burnaby BC
  • Investment: $1,200 CAD

You'll practice on real newborn models, build portfolio images, and learn the fundamentals of newborn photography from posing through editing, in a supportive studio environment.

Small Group Workshop — Maternity Vancouver

Best suited for photographers who are new to maternity photography or have less than two years of experience — including family photographers looking to add maternity sessions, or anyone wanting a safer posing workflow and stronger portfolio images.

This workshop will cover:

- Lighting techniques: backlit, dramatic, and silhouette styles

- Camera settings for maternity portraits

- An easy, repeatable posing workflow

- Posing with a partner and children

- Silk wrap techniques

- Post-processing and editing tips

Sample day schedule:

9:00 am: Greeting & introduction

10:00 am: First maternity model (solo)

11:30 am: Second maternity model (with partner)

1:00 pm: Lunch & Q&A (lunch provided)

2:00 pm: Third maternity model (with partner & child)

3:30 pm: Post-processing & editing session

4:30 pm: Final Q&A

What to bring:

A fully charged DSLR, at least one lens (35mm, 50mm, or 24–70mm), and a memory card.

All participants get portfolio images from the session.

  • Format: Small group (maximum 4 students), hands-on
  • Time: 9am - 5pm
  • Location: Rachel Yoon Photography Studio, Burnaby BC
  • Investment: $1,200 CAD

Why train in a small group?

  • Fewer students means more one-on-one attention and a wider variety of poses covered — less time standing in line, more time behind the camera.
  • You'll leave with a genuinely varied portfolio, not a handful of near-identical shots.
  • Because these workshops are local with no travel involved, we're able to keep them intentionally small and high-touch.

Workshops are offered periodically throughout the year, and spots are limited to a small group. Send us an inquiry and we'll follow up with the next available date.
